AMEX are giving you a 40% bonus when transferring your Membership Rewards to Virgin during the month of December.
These promotions pop up a couple times a year, and 40% ties the highest offer rate, so you should jump on this now if you have plans to travel to or through the UK.
A Sweet Spot When Coupled With Virgin's New Award Pricing
When combined with the mixed bag of Virgin's recent move to dynamic pricing, the big upshot here is you could now snag an Upper Class flight between NYC and LON for 21,000 Membership Rewards on off-peak days (plus a couple hundred bucks in unavoidable fees.) That's a great redemption.
And this bonus will offset the increased cost of standard awards, as well as taking some of the string out of the much higher peak awards.
Tad's Take
Again: great for planned off-peak travel, and decent for all other bookings. But, even with a 40% bump, I would not advise transferring speculatively. Transfer only if you already have an itinerary lined up or strongly expect you will in the near future. If you're just spitballing, there are better options than parking your points with Virgin absent an immediate use.
