The quarterly 5X bonus categories are a great reason to carry the Chase Freedom Flex (or, like Tad, hold onto your vintage Chase Freedom.) You can log in now to activate the fourth quarter bonuses that start October 1st. There are a slightly mixed bag:
- McDonald's
- Pet Care (including veterinary services)
- Paypal
- & select charities

Activating these bonuses on Freedom cards is a good habit to get into even if the categories don't inspire you. It's a big marginal return for a few mouse clicks. This quarter is a slightly odd variety of bonus categories - including caring for animals and eating them - but should be relatively easy for maxing out by paying with PayPal for online holiday shopping, paying the regular astronomical cost of caring for pets in America, or but hosting your own hamburger eating contest at the local McDonald's. Or, if you're a better person than me, you might get a little kickback on your tithing if the list of charities overlaps your favored cause.
